With unique designs, comfortability, and a sense of humor, we are happy to have collaborated with Pair of Thieves for this month’s Craftly box themed “Wild”. We interviewed Cash Warren, one of the founders, on their journey from the start of their business to how they design their socks. Oh, and prepare to lol. 😂
Tell us about your company and the people behind it.
We’re three friends from grade school who couldn’t stand mediocre product. Rather than sit on a park bench and complain about it, we created Pair of Thieves.
We blend bold designs with high performance elements to make all our products ready for everything. We don’t claim to be extreme and we will never be boring— we’re as comfortable checking our Instagram likes from 9am to 5pm as we are in a heated lawn bowling match. We use performance technology to improve comfort and wearability… but please don’t call us Athleisure.
What brought the start of Pair of Thieves?
Pair of Thieves started with a simple concept: rid the world of “drunk socks”… You know, those nylon thin dress socks that lose their elasticity and fall down. So we set out to develop a sock that was a blend of a padded athletic sock and a traditional designer dress sock. The result was the most comfortable sock on the planet that you could wear to work or to the gym or while chasing your kids at the park. Once we solved the Drunk Sock epidemic, we moved on and revolutionized underwear and up next are undershirts.
What’s the process for designing your products?
Our design process is very similar to the process used by legendary architect I.M. Pei. We want our products to reach a level where they influence people to want to do something more with their lives. Multiple studies have been conducted and the results are shocking: Our designs improve happiness. Did I answer your question?
You know those socks we featured in our box this month? what was the design process like for each?
We love these two styles as much as our own children. The inspiration for Sigourney Woven came to Alan (Creative Director) in a dream…literally. He woke up and found a hand drawn design next to his pillow and that sock became Sigourney Woven.
The Great Outdoors was a totally different process. He developed this print after spending a week in solitude. It’s amazing what one can create when he hasn’t interacted with another human for seven days

What is unique about your philosophy?
We’re still trying to figure out how to properly articulate our philosophy. We’re like the offspring of method acting and Zen. Complete submersion meets telepathy.
What has been the biggest challenge in running Pair of Thieves?
We are a self-funded startup with ambitions to revolutionize a category that has become commoditized, so the challenges are endless. But one that stands out is paying bills.
Your logo is quite detailed! What’s the story behind it?
Matthieu, one of our designers, lives in Bordeaux, France and he’s a brilliant illustrator/graphic artist.
He came up with the bear as a way to pay homage to the fact that Alan, David and I are all from California and he layered on the mask to emphasize our desire to infuse all of our products with “sneaky performance”.
Any upcoming collabs?
We haven’t done any true collabs to date but we’d love to in the future. Closest thing we’ve done to a collab is the cashmere collection we recently launched with Jenni Kayne. Let us know if you have any good ideas! We’re all ears.
What else should our subscribers know about your brand?
We care about junk comfort! Our men’s undies have been called “life changing”.
