How does a neutral alcohol actually become gin?
Have you gotten a taste for gin, but need help getting started with preparing your personal gin? Then read our instructions at your leisure and let our recipe ideas inspire you: As a basis for your gin, we recommend alcohol that is as neutral as possible. We advise you to use alcohol (diluted to 40% by volume). But it also works with a good vodka. The most important ingredient in your gin is the juniper berry, which you first macerate in your gin base for a day (meaning: cold soaking of herbs in a liquid).
Our tip: If you press the berries and seeds used lightly beforehand, the aromas will be better transferred to the alcohol.
After 24 hours you can give the gin your own individual touch by adding your preferred spices. You then macerate this mixture for another 24 hours and then filter it through a coffee or tea filter. Now you can taste your customized gin!
However, so that the aromas can settle and unfold a bit, we recommend that you put the gin uncovered in the fridge for at least 12 hours.
Now your specially created gin is ready to enjoy! As additional inspiration, we have created three tasty and different gin recipes that you can use to put a smile on your loved ones' faces:
Of course you can expand our suggested ingredients at any time with spices from your own kitchen (e.g. rosemary, fennel, chili) or with fresh ingredients (e.g. lemon zest, ginger, basil) - there are no limits to your creativity!
