RUM TRIVIA

There is probably hardly a spirit that has such positive connotations, which evokes such dazzling images and associations - irrespective of age and personal preference and associations as rum: a heady mix of sun, adventure, rebellion and nostalgia! Rum is reminiscent of hardy pirates like Captain Jack Sparrow: hard on the outside, sweet on the inside, with an unquenchable thirst for gold.

However, these associations are of relatively recent origin. The image of the rum-dripping pirate has imprinted itself on the collective memory thanks to a novel: Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 Treasure Island. Subsequent film and television adaptations (Pirates of the Caribbean falls into this Category) reinforced this connection. Rum and Polynesian island charm have gone hand in hand since the 1930s, when a small restaurant in L.A. invented a new gastronomic trend: Tiki culture. This later spread to when World War II soldiers returned from the Pacific with new experiences and tastes.

White rum, on the other hand, is either not aged at all or only slightly aged in stainless steel barrels. It is often referred to as light rum or silver rum. White rum has a mild and sweet taste.

Infusing spirits with wood chips is a DIY way to age your alcohol from home, creating a richer, more flavorful drink.

American Sweetheart has a subtle, easy-to-drink sweetness. Infusing spirits with woodchips is a DIY way to age your alcohol from home, creating a richer, more flavorful drink.

The smoky caramel taste of raw cane sugar adds a delicate sweetness to your cocktail.
Lime powder pairs perfectly with the sugar: bright, sour, and citrusy.
This mix finishes with refreshing mint. Trivia time: scientists learned that menthol activates nerve endings that sense cold, creating mint’s signature “cool.”

Our team has created two delicious spice blends for you, composed of three hand-selected botanicals that harmonize perfectly for unique, memorable infusions.

Our recommendation: use white/unaged rum.

Botanicals
— This mix kicks off with lemon peel, an intense, sweet, and slightly bitter citrus flavor.Lemons originate from the Indian metropolitan area and are among the most widely grown fruits in the world.
— Fresh, sweet, and sour pineapple harmonizes with lemon peel for a bright, fruity blend. This tropical food was so sought-after in the 16th and 17th centuries that Europeans considered possession of a pineapple to be a mark of high status.
— This tropical bouquet is finished with sweet, nutty, and mild coconut. In some cultures, coconuts were believed to have magical healing powers for hundreds of years.

Our recommendation: use brown/aged rum.

Botanicals
— This refreshing rum blend kicks off with crisp apple. According to Greek mythology, this sweet and sour fruit was considered highly valuable and even magical.
— A dash of cinnamon adds a lightly spicy, woody flavor to your rum. One of the oldest spices in the world, cinnamon comes from the sweet-tasting bark of the Cassia cinnamon tree.
— This restorative infusion finishes with ginger, adding a fresh, warm, and comforting complexity to your rum. This spice has been used in both the kitchen and in natural medicine since the 1st century.
